Biographical history

Robert William Geary (fl. 1913-1933) lived in Niagara Falls, Ontario. According to a note in the inventory, in 1913 the Geary family lived at 33 Barker Street. Geary was the third president of the Lundy’s Lane Historical Society (1908 1932), and was the author of Historical sketches : a memorial of the hundredth anniversary of the War of 1812-14, 1912. He died in June, 1933.

Fonds consists of a household inventory of antique furniture, china, art, coins, military artifacts, geological and natural history specimens, rare books and family documents owned by Robert William Geary and family of Niagara Falls, Ontario. The inventory was commenced by Geary on January 24, 1913 and annotated by him until 1933.

      Custodial history

      The book was owned by Mrs. S.B.G. Denton of Toronto at a later date; her relationship to the Geary family has not been determined. It was acquired by booksellers D. & E. Lake Ltd., perhaps in the 1980s, and was donated to the Art Gallery of Ontario in 2004.

      Immediate source of acquisition

      Fonds was donated by Elaine Lake in 2004.
